Summer 2025 Highlights: Whitney M. Young Leadership Initiative

This summer, Whitney M. Young Scholars dove into a season of innovation, creativity, and academic growth through a series of dynamic, academic-focused programs designed to inspire and empower. From engineering challenges to entrepreneurial pitches, here are the standout moments from this year’s summer offerings:

INSPIRE Summer Program: Engineering for a Sustainable Future

In partnership with the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, several Whitney M. Young Scholars participated in the INSPIRE Summer Program, where they explored construction techniques across diverse climates using sustainable materials. The program culminated in a design proposal competition, and two of our scholars took first place! Their innovative thinking earned them 3D printers as a reward, setting them up for future engineering endeavors.

Digital Transformation Academy: Innovation in Action

The 4th Annual Digital Transformation Academy, hosted in partnership with the University of Louisville’s College of Business, made local news this summer! Scholars took on the challenge of developing original online business concepts in just two weeks. From fashion startups to nonprofits addressing community needs, creativity was boundless.

Students earned Google Analytics badges, and the top winner walked away with a new laptop. The program concluded with a pitch ceremony, during which scholars presented their ideas to judges, their parents, instructors, and staff. The top three scholars were recognized for their outstanding work and leadership.

Looking Ahead

These summer programs are more than just seasonal activities; they are stepping stones toward leadership, innovation, and academic excellence. We’re proud of every Whitney M. Young Scholar who participated and can’t wait to see how they apply their experiences in the school year ahead.
